abstract: The Alkali-Activated Materials (AAM) are defined as materials obtained through the reaction between precursors and activators, separated into two classes depending on products formed in reaction, those rich calcium, blast furnace slag, whose Ca/(Si+Al) ratio is higher than 1; poor which geopolymers subclass. In this review article, some bibliographical aspects were discussed regarding discovery of these materials, research conducted by Victor Glukhovsky characterization historical monuments Davidovits, began 50s 60s persist to present day. main alkaline activation also addressed, using definition polysialates zeolites, case geopolymers, tobermorite structure, calcium. steps alkali-activated such dissolution, condensation, polycondensation, crystallization, hardening, discussed. Some techniques for characterizing AA examined, X-ray diffraction (XRD), nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry (NMR), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Finally, factors that interfere kinetics reactions explored, type cure activating solution used production stands out.
